Magnus Chase is a great series, to say the least. I had a lot of fun while reading it, and it just engaged me at every moment. This is an amazing series by Rick Riordan, and I recommend it to young and old readers.
This series covers Magnus Chase, his realization that Nordic Gods exist, the 9 worlds, along with dwarfs, elves, and more. He has to face many challenges, giants, a world of ice and cold, and even a Nordic God, Loki. He has to work together with his friends and companions. He travels into different worlds, he learns the past of his friends, and learns the truth about his father.
With the amazing story line, plot, theme, characters and design, I can recommend this book to kids and adults alike. However, I think the best age rating for this series is 10 - 14. Every adventure is so action packed, detailed, and comprehensive, but very easy to understand and follow. With all this, I can easily rate this series 5 stars. The way that every book comes together to form this great series is amazing.

Common Questions About Magnus Chase
What age is Magnus Chase appropriate for?
Magnus Chase is recommended for ages 10-14 (Grades 5th-8th). It uses Norse mythology (Vikings, the 9 worlds, dwarves, elves, Loki) the same way Percy Jackson uses Greek mythology. The humor and adventure are classic Rick Riordan. I had a lot of fun reading it and I'd recommend it to young and old readers.
Should I read Percy Jackson before Magnus Chase?
You can read Magnus Chase on its own, but there are crossover characters from the Percy Jackson universe. Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson is actually Magnus's cousin, and she shows up in the series. Reading Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus first makes those connections more fun, but it's not required to enjoy the story.
What order should I read Magnus Chase?
Read in order: The Sword of Summer, The Hammer of Thor, and The Ship of the Dead. Magnus discovers that Norse gods exist, dies on the first day, and ends up in Valhalla. From there, the adventure just keeps building. Every book is action-packed, detailed, and easy to follow, which is why I gave the series 5 Stars.
How many Magnus Chase books are there?
There are 3 books in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series by Rick Riordan. If your kid enjoys this, Rick Riordan's other mythology series are all on BookVine: Percy Jackson (Greek), Heroes of Olympus (Greek/Roman), Kane Chronicles (Egyptian), and Trials of Apollo (Greek).
Magnus Chase is recommended for ages 10 - 14 (Grades 5th - 9th) with Lexile scores ranging from 630L to 630L.
